Open for your beekeeping

Connect your technology with bee-pilot.io

bee-pilot.io is evolving into an open platform for modern beekeeping. In the future, you’ll be able to not only document observations and tasks, but also bring together data from scales, sensors, and other devices in one place – clear, understandable, and directly in the context of your colonies.

This turns individual measurements into a complete picture of your beekeeping operation – from the environment to each individual colony.

More data means better overview

Valuable information emerges in many places during daily work: at the colony, at the apiary, in the environment, and through your own observations. This is exactly where bee-pilot.io comes in. Our platform brings this information together and makes it practically usable.

Connecting external devices extends this approach meaningfully. Instead of working with separate tools, notes, and isolated solutions, you’ll soon be able to view, compare, and better assess relevant data centrally in your beekeeping software.

  • Better overview of apiaries and colonies
  • Fewer disruptions in daily work
  • Better decisions through more context
  • One platform instead of many separate tools

Flexible for manufacturers, developers, and beekeepers

bee-pilot.io deliberately separates the device manufacturer or developer of custom hardware from the beekeeper who later uses the device. This allows devices to be properly prepared, transferred, and then easily connected to the appropriate account.

Device manufacturer or developer

Anyone building or preparing their own hardware registers the device once in bee-pilot.io and receives the necessary information for further use.

Beekeeper or user

The beekeeper then conveniently connects the device to their own account using a claim code and uses the measurements directly in daily work.

Both can be the same person

Anyone who builds and uses their own technology benefits just as much. The separation creates structure – but doesn’t limit anyone.

Technically open – but designed for practical use

The connection is based on an open REST API. Devices or gateways send their measurements in a structured format to bee-pilot.io, where they can be appropriately assigned to the apiary or colony.

At a high level, this means: Register device, connect, transmit measurements, analyze centrally.

Clear assignment

Measurements can be cleanly integrated at the location or colony level – exactly where they’re relevant in practice.

Secure concept

The separation between registration, device connection, and data transmission ensures a transparent and clean process.

Open for custom hardware

Your own scales, sensors, or gateways can in principle be integrated – without locking you into a rigid system.

Why this matters

The strength of an open platform lies in technology not working in isolation, but meaningfully supporting your daily beekeeping work.

Better understand locations

Environmental data around the apiary helps you better assess developments at the location – from weather to changes throughout the day.

See colonies in context

Measurements directly at the colony or location make changes visible and complement your own experience with another perspective.

Integrate technology flexibly

Whether scales, sensors, or future extensions: bee-pilot.io aims to be open enough so your beekeeping operation can grow with your requirements.

Who will find this particularly interesting

Connecting custom hardware won’t work without some technical understanding, of course. But we want to keep the entry point as practical as possible.

Put differently: If you can build your own scales, you’ll usually be able to work with our interface too.

bee-pilot.io is aimed at both ambitious beekeepers with their own technology and developers, manufacturers, and technically skilled users who want to cleanly integrate their devices into a modern platform.

Think more digitally. Work practically.

We’re convinced: Good software in beekeeping shouldn’t complicate things, but should make life easier. That’s why bee-pilot.io doesn’t focus on technology, but on practical value in daily work.

Opening up to scales, sensors, and other systems isn’t an end in itself for us. It’s another step toward a platform that makes information visible where it’s needed – understandable, structured, and directly at your colonies.

This turns digital support into real practical value.

In this YouTube video, you’ll learn how the technical connection can be implemented.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own hardware?

That’s exactly what we’re working toward: bee-pilot.io should be open enough so that custom devices, sensors, and scales can be meaningfully connected.

Do I need technical knowledge for this?

Some basic understanding is helpful. But our goal is to make the process clear enough that technically skilled beekeepers, developers, and manufacturers can work with it well.

How does the separation between manufacturer and beekeeper work?

Devices can first be technically prepared and registered. The beekeeper then simply connects them to their own account using a claim code. But both can also be handled by the same person.

Will the platform continue to be developed?

Yes. We’re continuously developing bee-pilot.io further – with a focus on practicality, stability, and real value for beekeepers.
