Recording Varroa counts in a quick round

With quick capture, you can record the Varroa counts for every colony at an apiary in one go, instead of opening each colony individually.

Getting started

On the apiary’s overview screen, tap Actions and choose Varroa → Quick capture. Select the measurement date and the measurement method from the methods set up for you, then tap Start measurement.

It’s quicker if you’re already looking at a single colony: tap the Varroa tile in the colony’s dashboard to open the evaluation, then tap Start quick capture there — or use the same button in the location-wide Varroa analysis (Actions → Varroa → Analysis). Starting from a single colony opens quick capture right at that colony’s hive stand, instead of the location’s first one.

Entering values per hive stand

The app shows you the hive stands of your apiary one after another. For each hive stand, you enter the values that match the measurement method (e.g. mite count and days), then tap Confirm. Only a confirmed hive stand is saved — this makes sure a genuine reading of 0 can never be mistaken for a hive stand that simply wasn’t checked. If you change anything afterwards, just confirm the hive stand again.

For measurement methods using the “mites per day” raw-value formula, the app now automatically fills in the Number of days field with the number of days since the measurement started when you open it — you no longer need to calculate this yourself, though you can still adjust it manually if needed.

Hive stands without a colony are marked “Unoccupied” and are skipped. A hive stand you deliberately don’t want to check can simply be skipped, without confirming it. If a measurement has already been recorded for a colony on that day, the app lets you know and shows you the existing value.

Adjusting method and date per hive stand

The measurement method and date chosen at the start apply to the whole round by default, but can be adjusted individually for each hive stand via the selectors right above the value entry — for instance if a different measurement method was used at one hive stand, or the measurement actually took place on a different day.

If you change the date, the app asks whether the change should apply only to this hive stand or to all hive stands in the batch capture.

Faster entry: voice and photo

Instead of typing in every value individually, you can also dictate the values by voice (see “Recording Varroa counts by voice”) or — for methods that use a mite count — have a photo of the sticky board analyzed (see “Detecting the mite count from a photo”).

Recording a treatment right away

If a colony was also treated as part of the measurement, you can record a treatment for it directly via the Varroa treatment button at the bottom of the screen, without leaving quick capture.

Recognizing an active measurement

While quick capture is in progress at an apiary, you’ll see a red Measurement active chip at the top of that apiary’s overview screen. Tapping it reopens the ongoing recording directly — even if you left it in the meantime without finishing.

Finishing the entry

Your progress (“X / Y hive stands recorded”) is shown continuously. Once you’re done, tap Finish batch capture — the recorded values are used for evaluating the colonies. Use the trash icon to discard a capture you’ve started at any time.
