1. Provider, Scope, and Contractual Relationship

1.1 The provider of Compass is also bee-pilot.io UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Untere Hauptstr. 41c, 91336 Heroldsbach, Germany, represented by Managing Director Martin Wiesmüller, Email: support@bee-pilot.io.

1.2 Compass can be used without registration and without entering into a paid contractual relationship. Compass is a free, ad-supported service; the mere use of Compass does not result in a contract regarding the app (Part A) or the beekeeper landing page (Part C).

1.3 By sending the first message, the user confirms that they have read and accepted the preceding consent dialog (see §10) and have taken note of these terms. If the user refuses consent, use of Compass is not possible.

1.4 Compass is intended for adults with full legal capacity. Since no registration takes place, age cannot be technically verified. Minors should only use Compass with the consent of their legal guardians.

2. Description of Services

2.1 Compass answers two types of queries:

Beekeeper Search: Search for a specific location or a search of the user’s surrounding area (provided the browser allows a location request when the first message is sent), sorted by distance. Only landing pages with the status “published”, an activated region, and an activated Compass visibility switch are searchable.
General beekeeping-related technical questions, which are answered based on the general model knowledge of the AI language model used. There is no curated knowledge base compiled by bee-pilot.

2.2 Compass can categorize photos uploaded by the user (JPEG/PNG/WebP up to 4 MB) in the context of beekeeping. This categorization is expressly provided without diagnosis; in case of suspected disease or pest infestation, Compass refers to beekeeping associations, bee experts, or the responsible official veterinarian. Uploaded photos are not permanently stored by bee-pilot.

2.3 For questions that depend on current, changing facts (e.g., deadlines, approved agents, restricted areas), Compass can perform a web search and link the source of the answer. bee-pilot does not check the content of the linked third-party content.

3. AI Labeling

Compass is an AI system within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act). The user communicates with a machine-based system, not with a human. This applies to all answers from Compass, regardless of their phrasing.

4. No Brokerage, Recommendation, or Verification Relationship

4.1 bee-pilot does not broker any contracts via Compass between the user and the beekeepers displayed in the search results and does not become a party to any purchases the user makes directly with a beekeeper (see also Part C §3).

4.2 The results list of the beekeeper search is sorted exclusively automatically by distance to the specified or transmitted location and the visibility settings set by the respective beekeeper. bee-pilot does not perform any content review, evaluation, or recommendation of the listed beekeepers, their offers, or the information presented in the trust signals.

4.3 There is no claim to the completeness of the results list or to the display of a specific beekeeper.

5. Disclaimer for Information

5.1 Answers from Compass – including technical information, photo categorizations, and web search results – do not constitute professional, veterinary, or legal advice and do not replace them. bee-pilot assumes no liability for the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the answers.

5.2 bee-pilot assumes no responsibility for the content of linked third-party sources (web search).

5.3 Binding statements regarding prices, availability, or other offer details of a beekeeper displayed in Compass are made exclusively by the respective beekeeper on their own landing page; information summarized by Compass during the conversation is non-binding.

6. Rules of Use and Misuse

6.1 When using Compass, the following are particularly prohibited:

automated or script-controlled access to Compass without prior express consent from bee-pilot,
circumventing the usage limits mentioned in §7,
attempting to extract system instructions or internal configurations or to circumvent security and moderation mechanisms (e.g., through prompt injection),
uploading content that is illegal, harmful to minors, or violates the rights of third parties.

6.2 The user grants bee-pilot a simple right of use for uploaded photos, limited to the duration of the respective processing, for analysis by Compass and the AI services used. Permanent storage by bee-pilot does not occur (see §10).

6.3 bee-pilot may temporarily or permanently block individual IP addresses or requests in the event of violations of these rules.

7. Usage Restrictions

To protect system stability and prevent misuse, the following limits apply: a maximum of 15 requests per IP address and hour, a maximum of 60 requests per IP address and day, a maximum of 750 requests in total per day. bee-pilot may adjust these limits at any time as necessary to ensure the stability, security, or performance of Compass.

8. Moderation

Before each processing step, an upstream automated classifier checks text and image inputs. If this classifier fails, the request is rejected as a precaution (“fail closed”). Rejected requests are logged and counted, but are not included in the conversation history visible to the user. There is no claim to the release of a rejected request. In the event of repeated violations, blocking according to §6.3 may occur.

9. Advertising

9.1 Compass shows advertising placements in a separate column clearly marked as “Ad” or (on mobile devices) a collapsible side menu.

9.2 bee-pilot does not check the content of advertising placements in every case and assumes no liability for the accuracy of advertising claims or for the content of linked target pages of advertising partners.

9.3 To deliver the ad image, the user’s IP address may be transmitted to the image hosting service used by the respective advertising partner. Further details are provided in the Privacy Policy.

9.4 The contractual terms with advertising partners themselves are not subject to these Terms of Use and are agreed upon separately.

10.1 Before the first message, the user is shown a consent dialog that points out the storage of conversation content and IP address and links to the Privacy Policy. Without this consent, use of Compass is not possible.

10.2 Chat history, IP address, token counters, and rejected requests are stored in a separate database for 90 days from the last message and then automatically deleted.

10.3 The location shared by the user is used exclusively for the surrounding area search and does not reach the AI model as a specific data point; the location is not stored.

10.4 Chat messages and attached photos are transmitted to OpenAI for processing (model response, moderation, web search); storage by bee-pilot itself does not occur in this regard.

11. Availability and Changes

Compass is provided as a free service without any guarantee of availability or completeness. bee-pilot may change, restrict, or discontinue Compass at any time.

12. Changes to these Terms for Compass

Since no contractual relationship is established when using Compass, the version of these terms published on compass.bee-pilot.io at the time of use shall apply. Significant changes will be indicated by a new consent dialog.

13. Applicable Law

Part A §14 applies accordingly: German law excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods; mandatory consumer protection regulations of the user’s country of habitual residence remain unaffected.

Part A applies to the use of the app, and Part C applies to the beekeeper landing page.
